You are 100% right and 100% wrong

September 16, 2008

One debate that I’ve recently had with a family member “on the other side” is McCain’s voting record. I asked how they could possibly expect me to believe that McCain stands for change when he votes the same as Bush 90% of the time. Their response was that Obama voted along party lines just as often.

Fact of the matter is, I’m okay with that. Voting along party lines is not really the issue. Voting exactly the same as the current regime for years on end, then touting that you are a Maverick and a change agent… well, that’s where we start to fall into the liar, liar, pants on fire category.

Facts is, McCain voted that same as Bush 95% of the time in 2007 and 100% to date this year. [Source]

Thanks for the clarification

So here it is… McCain explains why Sarah Palin isn’t qualified to be next-in-line to the presidency and she, in turn, explains why John McCain doesn’t represent change.

This was John McCain, late last year on why he was qualified to be the president:

I am prepared. I need no on-the-job training. I wasn’t a mayor for a short period of time. I wasn’t a governor for a short period of time.

And here is Sarah Palin last night on why she is ready to be a 72-year old heartbeat away from the presidency:

Charlie, again, we’ve got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time. It is for no more politics as usual and somebody’s big, fat resume maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment, where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state.

Me too!

September 14, 2008

For a while now I’ve been thinking that the number one primo job in the land would be working for McCain’s marketing group. Seems to me they sit back, waiting for Obama’s camp to release a campaign and then steal it for themselves.

“Obama’s for change? Let’s be for change!”

“Obama claims McCain is out of touch? Let’s claim Obama is out of touch!”

“Obama thinks George Bush’s policies are disastorous? Let’s claim Bush’s policies are disastorous!”

I’ve taken to calling McCain’s marketing strategy the “Me too” campaign.

But now there’s further proof that you don’t have to have an original idea to be employed by McCain…

An ounce of truth

“Listen, mayors have the toughest job, I think, in America. It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.” – John McCain

Tax cuts

September 14, 2008

According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, both candidates are proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama’s plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. [Source]

The Tax Policy Center (TPC) is a joint venture of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, based in Washington, D.C.. The Center is mostly composed of tax lawyers, accountants and former politicians; their main focus is to provide accessible analysis and facts about tax policy to policymakers, journalists, citizens, and researchers.
